Half-Million Dollar Steroid Bust in Tennessee

A Tennessee man has been arrested after a stash of anabolic steroids was seized from a local storage unit. Leslie Parker, Jr. was implicated as a major steroid dealer distributing product to mid-level dealers around the country. Police were quick to characterize the steroid bust as an “international drug smuggling operation” that was “one of the largest steroid confiscations in department history.”

The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD), in conjunction with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, arrested Parker after a long-term investigation of illegal steroid distribution in Tennessee. The MPD obtained a search warrant to search a local storage unit and the hotel room where Parker was living. They confiscated steroids that had an estimated street value in excess of $500,000. Parker was charged with the possession and distribution of a Schedule III (Anabolic Steroids) drug and the possession of drug paraphernalia.

“This is a major break in the pipeline of steroids coming to middle Tennessee,” said Kyle Evans, a spokesman for the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Parker denied being a steroid dealer when contacted by Nick Beres of NewChannel 5.

“No, I completely deny it,” said Parker. “There’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye.”

Of course, Tennessee authorities have had several “major breaks” over the past five years that have done little to slow down the steroid trade.

In 2008, local and federal agents busted a Nashville personal trainer who operated an underground lab (UGLs) responsible for manufacturing and distributing private label steroids. He was found to have many customers working in law enforcement. This led to multiple internal affairs investigations into the apparent widespread use of steroids by cops.

In 2008 and 2009, numerous police officers employed by Tennesse law enforcement agencies were implicated in the use of illegal anabolic steroids. Cops from the following law enforcement agencies had been the subject of steroid investigations: Metro Nashville Police Department, Murfreesboro Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Hendersonville Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigations have had little impact. Sources have told NewsChannel 5 that steroids remain readily available in “every gym in middle Tennessee”.
