Ringleader’s Wife Goes on Trial in “Operation Bulk-Up” Steroid Case

Jessica Howard will be the first defendant to go on trial from the “Operation Bulk-Up” anabolic steroid investigation in Warren County (Ohio). The investigation was spearheaded by the Warren County Drug Task Force. Thirty-two individuals were arrested as a result of the two-year undercover investigation that centered on steroid distribution at the Countryside YMCA in Lebanon. Steroid Source for Elite and Olympic Athletes Busted in Spain

A joint operation between Mossos d’Esquadra and Spain’s Policia Nacional has resulted in the arrest of ten members of a doping ring that allegedly provided anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, EPO, CERA and other performance-enhancing drug (PEDs) to top amateur, professional and Olympic athletes.  The steroid investigation was codenamed Operación Skype. Teenage Female Prostitutes Using “Steroids” to Bulk Up

Teenage female prostitutes in Bangladesh are using “steroids” to bulk up and gain weight according to a report by Reuters. The alarmist headline about a “dark steroid secret” suggests that there is an epidemic of sex workers who are “abusing steroids” as appearance-enhancing drugs. Of course, anabolic steroids are the drugs that come to mind in the context of steroid abuse and bulking up. It isn’t until the seventh paragraph that readers learn that the steroids are not anabolic steroids but corticosteroids.

Football Players Sue After Being Banned Under NFL Steroid Policy

The National Football League banned  Denver Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams and defensive lineman Ryan McBean for violating the NFL’s steroid policy. Williams and McBean were suspended for six games but not because they tested positive for anabolic steroids or any specific banned performance-enhancing substance. The NFL alleged that the two players provided “non-human” urine samples to the drug testing officer. [Read more…]

George Brett Would Boycott Hall of Fame If Steroid Users Inducted

George Brett, the Hall-of-Fame baseball player for the Kansas City Royals, has indicated that he would be the first to boycott the Hall of Fame induction ceremony if an anabolic steroid user made it to Cooperstown. Brett claimed he never considered using anabolic steroids since he never lifted weights during his 21-year career. He made no mention of amphetamines. [Read more…]

Brian McNamee Calls Coaches the Biggest Steroid Pushers

Brian McNamee recently told a group of high school guidance counselors that coaches were the biggest “pushers” of anabolic steroids. The convicted steroid dealer argued that coaches had a greater influence on a young athlete’s decision to use steroids than street corner dealers. He suggested that the “win-at-all-costs” attitude pressured student-athletes to use steroids. [Read more…]

Jose Canseco Has Steroids, Shaquille O’Neal Has “Frosted Flakes”

Jose Canseco and Shaquille O’Neal have informally been discussing the possibility of fighting in a mixed martial arts (MMA) bout. O’Neal originally suggested the idea last year but Canseco only recently started taking him seriously. Many people have speculated that Canseco is in need of money since his comeback attempt with the Triple-A Quintana Roo Tigres of the Mexican Baseball League has temporarily been postponed. Two Steroid Users Make List of Most Hated Seattle Sports Figures

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper recently compiled a list of the most hated Seattle sports figures. Given the national obsession with anabolic steroids in sports, it probably comes as know surprise that two steroid users made the list. Of course, steroid use itself wasn’t the primary reason that the athletes made the list. But it obviously didn’t help.

Brian “The Boz” Bosworth and Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez were the steroid users with Seattle connections who made the Post-Intelligencer’s list. [Read more…]
