Steroid Testing for Oregon Police Officers Involved in Deadly Force

The existence of the so-called phenomena of “roid rage” has taken on a life of its own in popular culture. Most people seem to think that uncontrolled and irrational aggression is a common, if not unavoidable, side effect of anabolic steroids. However,  the causal link between anabolic steroids and aggression in humans is tenuous. There is a notably lack of a scientific support for the existence of “roid rage”;  if roid rage exists at all, it occurs in a small minority of steroid users.

This hysteria over roid rage has been responsible for several ill-informed legislative proposals. [Read more…]

An off-duty Jersey City police officer was involved in fatal traffic accident that resulted in the death of an 82-year old woman. Texas State Trooper Pleads Guilty to Selling Steroids in HEB Parking Lot

Former Department of Public Safety Trooper “Jeffery J” pleaded guilty to three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. The Texas State Trooper admitted selling trenbolone, nandrolone and stanozolol for $800 to a Kerrville Police Officer in a steroid deal in the local H-E-B parking lot on September 7, 2009. Kerrville cop “Danny S” was fired from the department on September 18, 2009 after an internal affairs investigation into the steroid deal.

State Trooper “Jeffrey J.” faces up to 6 years on the three State charges when he is sentenced next month. Stockton Police Department and Participation in Steroid Black Market

The arrest of a California police officer on suspicion of steroid trafficking has prompted an internal investigation of potential anabolic steroid use by officers in the Stockton Police Department. “Darrin Fa.” was arrested last month after his own department ordered surveillance on his activities and busted him in possession of significant quantities of anabolic steroids in an undercover sting operation.

The numerous headlines about steroid use among law enforcement around the country has led to Police Chief Blair Ulring conducting a department-wide investigation even though there no evidence has been reported suggesting involvement by additional officers.

Most journalists reporting on the problem of cops and steroids usually focus on the alleged association between anabolic steroids and aggression in popular culture even though the scientific evidence for such a connection is tenuous. However, Christian Burkin of The Record addresses the issues related to cops and steroids that the public should be concerned about [Read more…]
