Steroids Still Available from Some Florida Anti-Aging Clinics

The demand for testosterone replacement therapy continues unabated as patients flock to Florida anti-aging and longevity clinics. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the “Low T” television, newspaper and internet campaign (funded by Abbott Laboratories) has successfully convinced men to seek testing for low testosterone levels.

The “Low T” campaign suggests that symptoms such as decreased sex drive, impotence, irritability and depression may be attributable to low testosterone. Men suffering from these symptoms are encouraged to see a doctor that will test their hormone levels.

Florida anti-aging and longevity clinics have long thrived in South Florida in response to the demand. In addition, the low barriers to entry, even for individuals without medical training, have made it easy for entrepreneurs to open such potentially lucrative clinics.

However, authorities have been scrutinizing the prescribing practices of many of these clinics that are prescribing anabolic steroids such as testosterone and nandrolone decanoate (aka Deca Durabolin) and human growth hormone.

Numerous Florida anti-aging and longevity clinics have been shut down. Authorities claim the clinics have been illegally selling anabolic steroids and human growth hormone for bodybuilding, performance enhancement and anti-aging purposes.

The clinics have often been linked to in-house or third-party compounding pharmacies.

The Sun-Sentinel reminded readers that testosterone replacement therapy is a legitimate treatment for men suffering from hypogonadism or low testosterone.

The newspaper article featured two anti-aging clinics – the Core Institute and the Genesis Health Institute based in South Florida that reportedly cater to men who have a legitimate need for hormone replacement.

Clinics specializing in testosterone replacement therapy usually charge between $150 and $400 per month that includes the cost of monitoring and associated steroids, typically testosteorne in gel, injection or pellet, used for treatment.

An initial consultation at the Genesis Health Institute costs $350 plus $750 for a five-month supply of testosterone.
