WWE Randy Orton Suspended for Dianabol

Professional wrestler Randy Orton has reportedly tested positive for an anabolic steroid in a steroid test administered under World Wrestling Entertainment’s Talent Wellness Program. The violation represents the second offense for Orton since the Wellness Policy took effect. Entertainers are suspended for 30 days for the first offense and 60 days for the second offense.

Orton was caught with metabolites of methandrostenolone in his urine according to Superluchas.net. Methandrostenolone is more commonly known by its former trade name Dianabol or Dbol for short. Contrary to what has been reported on many wrestling websites, Dianabol remains a very popular steroid in bodybuilding circles.

Orton also tested positive for marijuana in a second drug test. But marijuana use is not an offense subject to suspension. Instead, Orton was fined $2,500 for getting caught with metabolites of the recreational drug in his system. He had previously been suspended, prior to the creation of the Wellness Program, for smoking pot in 2006. However, it did not “count” towards his Wellness policy suspensions.

Orton was also implicated in steroid use as far back as March 2007 when Sports Illustrated published an expose of several professional athletes, including ten professional wrestlers, who had purchased steroids and ancillary drugs from Signature Pharmacy.

Prescription records reportedly showed that Orton purchased the steroids Winstrol, Anavar, Deca Durabolin and testosterone and the anti-estrogen drugs Clomid and Arimidex from Signature Pharmacy. Since the allegations preceded the Wellness Program, they were not investigated. And the purported steroid use was not counted as a violation under the Wellness Program.

The Orton suspension represents the second time this year that a professional wrestler employed by WWE has been caught using steroids under the Wellness program. Rey Mysterio was also suspended for 60 days after testing positive for anabolic steroids earlier this year. Like Orton, it was also the second time that the Lucha Libre style wrestler failed the Wellness tests. Also like Orton, Mysterio was implicated in the purchase of Deca Durabolin and Winstrol from a compounding pharmacy in 2007.
