Judge Chastises Steroid Dealer for Endangering the Public

Clayton Moore is the latest bodybuilder who has been sentenced as part of a far-reaching federal investigation into the international steroid trade. Moore pleaded guilty to various felony charges involving anabolic steroid distribution and money laundering earlier this year. He avoided jail and was sentenced to three years probation due to his cooperation during the investigation.

Mary McKeen Houghton, an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for Western Pennsylvania, pursued the case against Moore. AUSA Houghton has been busy busting bodybuilders involved in the steroid trade lately. The federal prosecutor first gained notoriety, along with her boss U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan, for the Operation Pipe Dreams investigation that targeted Tommy Chong for selling bongs. Their constituents can rest assured that they have made giant strides towards protecting the community from those dangerous marijuana and steroid users.

Even though Moore received a “slap on the wrist”, he still had to endure a lecture by a district judge. Senior U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose told Moore that he was no different from any heroin or cocaine dealer. Judge Ambrose emphasize that selling steroid “did endanger the public”.

Of course, being compared to dealers distributing harder recreational drugs was a small price to pay to escape prison. Other co-defendents in Moore’s case were sentenced to several years in prison.

Paul Matthews, the man who Moore to which Moore sold oral anabolic steroids, pleaded guilty and is currently serving 15 months in prison.

Oleksandr “Musclebear” Skochyk and Yvgeniy “Eugene” Suray, the ringleaders of the international steroid distribution conspiracy, have each been sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in United States federal prison. “Musclebear” was an international steroid source whose operation was based in the Ukraine. “I shouldn’t have been doing what I was doing,” Moore told Judge Ambrose.
