Two major figures in the Norwegian world of bodybuilding have been detained for allegedly selling anabolic steroids according to the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv (DN). Sør-Trøndelag Police have alleged that popular local fitness experts Robert Eilertsen and Gunnar Strand Jacobsen were two of the men allegedly involved in selling steroids on the private internet website called “Anabolic Forum”. Two steroid sources known as “Guru” and “Karma” were accused of offering doping products to several thousand members of the forum.

The attorney for Eilertsen said that his client was innocent. Lawyer Tore Angen said that his client was held in solitary confinement for two weeks of the 4-week police detention. Eilertsen had previously been fined 10,000 Norwegian kronor in 2009 for steroid distribution involving 100 ampoules and 800 grams steroids.

Robert Eilertsen was described as the founder and editor of Fitnessbloggen.no. However, Fitnessbloggen.no released a statement attempting to distance itself from Eilertsen. They condemned the trafficking of anabolic steroids and condemned Eilertsen alleged involvement dealing steroids. “Fitnessbloggen is more than one person,” according to the statement.

Treningsforum.no also released a statement announcing the removal of every article written by Eilertsen from their website. The statement expressed their strong opposition to the sale of steroids and their desire to avoid any association with Eilertsen.

Gunnar Strand Jacobsen was described as the owner of the bodybuilding gym “Kaliber Treningsstudio” in Trondheim who also coached elite athletes in various sporting disciplines. Kaliber CEO Thomas Thoresen categorically denounced the use of anabolic steroids and doping products. Caliber was closed for four hours during the police raid. But Thoresen emphaiszed that steroids were not found at the gym.

The steroid investigation was codenamed “Operation Glide” and has been described as the largest steroid bust in Noway’s history. The detentions were based on a lengthy police investigation into steroid distribution, money laundering and organized crime. A total of eleven individuals, including Eilertsen and Jacobsen, were detained during the raids. The men have not yet been indicted and are presumed innocent.
