National Level NPC Bodybuilder to Attend Steroid Education Classes

The Dansbury Superior Court has accepted NPC bodybuilder “PJ” Braun into a drug education program where he will apparently learn about the evils of anabolic steroids. Braun faced three counts of possession of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of prescription legend drugs and one count of possession of narcotics. All charges will be dropped upon the successful completion of the drug education program. While it is unlikely that Braun will learn anything new about steroids, there is a good chance the he will be able to teach the instructor a thing or two about the drugs. [Read more…]

Misconceptions About Steroids in Bodybuilding Refuted by Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler

The Las Vegas Review-Journal recently interviewed Jay Cutler about the bodybuilding lifestyle on the eve of the 2011 Mr. Olympia contest. The four-time Mr. Olympia champion used the opportunity to dispel some of the misconceptions about bodybuilding. At the top of his list was the perception that bodybuilding is simply a matter of consuming anabolic steroids.

“It’s a fringe sport, a cult sport. Misunderstood,” explained Cutler. “They think we work out eight hours a day, and they have that theory, ‘If I took steroids, I’d look like him.’ ” [Read more…]

NABBA World President Defends Steroid Use in Bodybuilding

Graeme Lancefield, the president of the National Amateur Body Builders Association (NABBA), defended the use of anabolic steroids in bodybuilding competitions in a recent interview with the Sydney Morning Herald. NPC Bodybuilding Promoter Sentenced to Probation in Operation Roid Runner

Craig Johnson, the owner of Top Physique Nutrition and Promotions, was sentenced to six months probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor conspiracy to possess anabolic steroids (a controlled substance) by a Lehigh County Court. Johnson is actively involved in the bodybuilding community having promoted several bodybuilding competitions for the National Physique Committee (NPC) and International Federation of BodyBuilder (IFBB).

Johnson was arrested during the second phase of a state investigation codenamed Operation Roid Runner. Johnson crime was related to his decision to help a friend who had asked him to “hook him up” with some anabolic steroids. Johnson referred the friend to amateur competitive bodybuilder  Edward Moyzan. Johnson was not aware of the fact that his friend was a confidential informant (CI) for the government. [Read more…]

India National Anti-Doping Agency Reports Powerlifters and Bodybuilders Use A Lot of Steroids

The use of anabolic steroids in powerlifting and bodybuilding is generally thought to be pervasive in the sports. In the United States, few major sporting leagues implement steroid testing protocols compliant with the Anti-Doping Code published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The National Football League, Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association have all adopted some form of anti-doping for their athletes but none approximate the “gold standard” of testing published by WADA. IFBB and NPC Bodybuilders Sentenced to Probation in Operation Roid Runner Steroid Probe

An NPC bodybuilder and an IFBB professional bodybuilder have been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to the delivery of anabolic steroids. Amateur bodybuilder Edward Moyzan and IFBB pro bodybuilder Brian Chamberlain were arrested after being implicated in a steroid investigation that was codenamed Operation Roid Runner. [Read more…]

Former Gym Owner Sentenced to Prison in Pennsylvania Operation Roid Runner

Former gym owner, former bodybuilder and former police officer Eric Garonzik was sentenced to 12 to 23 months in the Dauphin County Prison Work Release Center and 5 years probation after pleading guilty to steroid distribution and conspiracy charges related to his arrest in the steroid investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office that was codenamed Operation Roid Runner. Former NFL Cheerleader Arrested for Steroid Possession

Samantha Baker, a former New England Patriot cheerleader in 2002, was arrested at her boyfriend’s house after police targeted Vincent Papagano as the alleged mastermind behind a high volume drug trafficking business involving marijuana, anabolic steroids, and other illicit drugs. Police seized 35 pounds of marijuana, large quantities of anabolic steroids and prescription drugs after a three-month investigation by the Braintree Police and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
